This paper is based on research conducted into the perceived low use of advocacy agencies in Perth by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have a disability. The research identifies barriers to accessing advocacy. Using the theory of social role valorisation (SRV), Leipoldt also identifies 'wounds' which are commonly sustained by Aboriginal people to confirm the validity of the findings. The findings reveal that lack of awareness of disability advocacy agencies was the primary reason for the low access rate by people from Aboriginal background. The paper contains recommendations regarding funding of advocacy and the development of suitable advocacy models in participation with Aboriginal people. Keywords: Cross Cultural, SRV, Advocacy
