In this paper, the authors present a holistic approach to behaviour management in contrast to aversive practices. This approach centres on providing the individual with the lifestyle they desire and need, focussing on the cause of the challenging behaviour. The paper considers how to go about implementing such an approach and outlines the steps involved. Several case studies are given. The authors conclude by giving the conditions which need to be in place if non-aversive behaviour management strategies are to be implemented successfully. Keyword: Individualisation
