This article describes two kinds of Employment category under the Commonwealth Disability Services Act, 1986 - Competitive Employment,Training and Placement (CETP) and Supported Employment. It constrasts Supported Employment and Sheltered Workshops and their relationship to open employment. It poses interesting questions such as: "Why is mowing lawns in the heat, cold and rain better than making pallets in the workshop?" and "Why can't able bodied and disabled bodied people work together under the sheltered employment umbrella?" It discusses the issue of support and warns against a preponderance of work which is done exclusively by people with disabilities, thereby creating the danger of further categorisation and exclusion.
