Head Injury. A Family Matter

Book

The central theme of this book is that the effects of an illness or disability reach beyond the individual to touch everyone in the family. The early chapters are first person accounts dealing with issues as they relate to the injured person, a parent, a spouse, a child and a sibling. The other sections are by professionals and deal with the family as a system; the family and services; special issues for families; and family intervention techniques. The writings emphasise the importance of families being seen as an integral part of rehabilitation for the injured person in order for the process to be effective. It examines the challenges for families and provides guidelines, strategies and tools to assist families to provide the intervention support needed. Keywords: Families, Health, Professionals.
