Inclusive Schooling: Pushing the boundaries of parental involvement

Book

This as yet unpublished chapter formed the basis of a presentation to a Brisbane conference. It considers the on-going struggle for inclusive education. O'Brien gives a historical perspective on advocacy for educational reform. She also presents and discusses common themes which emerged from interviews with people involved in the parent advocacy movement in Australia and New Zealand. O'Brien concludes that society needs to address the injustice that has been, and continues to be, meted out to students with disabilities and their families, saying "Without reconciliation of difference, all people's humanity is fragile".
