This paper describes findings of Australian research undertaken on three groups of mothers: those without a child with a disability; those with a child with physical disability and those with a child with intellectual disability. The researchers found that all mothers experience feelings of vulnerability and resilience at certain times, whether or not they have a child with a disability. Individual mother's reactions are influenced by their family's coping resources and strategies in times of stress. The study also highlighted the need for professionals to understand the individual needs and emotions of mothers. Keyword: Families
