This article outlines a variety of models of professional-parent relationships and gives the results of a questionnaire completed by parents which identified parents' perspectives of service provision, as well as identifying relevant needs and issues for parents. The results indicated that professionals continue to control the parent-professional relationship, assuming the role of 'expert', rather than professionals working in partnership with parents, using a process of negotiation.
