This article draws heavily on the experiences of a Victorian primary school. The authors identify key qualities needed in an integration assistant and argue that policies for integration assistants should match actual roles and responsibilities. They identify key ways of supporting integration assistants as being through information and training, and by allowing time for regular planning meetings and lesson planning.
