Kathie Snow asks us to think of people with disability as people first, describing what a person HAS (i.e. a disability), not what a person IS. She reminds us that we must work to overcome attitudinal barriers, particularly those caused by the use of prejudicial language, e.g. labelling people. We need to recognise that a 'problem' is really a need, and concentrate on people's strengths rather than the things they can't do. Snow believes that people with disability and their families need to set an example. She also believes that People first Language can change how society views and treats people with disability.
