In this article, Ross Womersley suggests some important factors as to why small agencies are likely to last, despite pressures such as the tendering process. Womersley draws attention to the typical drawbacks of larger organisations. He argues that while being small does not automatically protect an organisation from becoming highly formalised and impersonal, it means that small organisations are more likely to stay focussed; they are also more likely to be more responsive to the needs and interests of the people they serve. He argues that thoughtful discussion should take place before an agency makes any decision to expand. Keywords: Individualisation, Professionals
