A fresh perspective on inclusive living

Written Material

Another inspiring story from a member of QPPD. This is a story about the specific methods used by a husband and wife to move their daughter (Sarah) from a special school into the local primary school. Sarah's mother (and later her father) decided that the Circle of Friends method would be the most supportive and beneficial for Sarah. The people within this Circle perform a number of roles - emotional support, advocacy, sounding boards, note taking at meetings and ideas being just a few. Sarah's mother writes that nothing would have been achieved if she and her husband didn't plan or have the team of friends to help them: "Now we all dare to dream of a future for Sarah and other people with disabilities. That they are accepted in our community...". Keywords: Inclusion, Education, School age
