"Genetic engineering and genetic manipulation are now a reality. This paper examines the ways in which these developments have encroached on our lives and influenced our attitudes, and looks at their particular implications for disabled people." Ralph also explores the 'quality of life' debate, arguing that people who make the decisions about another human being's life are non disabled people in positions of power. As well as scrutinising the whole idea that women truly are free to choose with regard to abortion after genetic screening has taken place, the author argues that these scientific developments and the way they are used pose a threat to the very existence of people with disabilities.
