This article reveals the preliminary results of a national research study of organisations in the USA undertaking the conversion process from facilility-based to community-based services and supports for people with disabilities. The study was undertaken by members of the Indiana Employment Inititative using questionnaires. Barriers to conversion are listed in table form in rank order, accompanied by a summary of strategies to address each barrier. Organisations involved were also asked what they would do differently based on their experience. The article concludes with their suggestions. Keyword: Employment
