This position paper argues that concerns about race and culture have been largely ignored with respect to students with severe disabilities. It notes that cultures themselves are changing and adaptable, with individuals being affected by class, generational status, religion, gender and geographical location. The paper suggests strategies to facilitate meaningful assessment of students and factors that should be taken into consideration when placing and teaching students from diverse cultures. It also stresses that multicultural education and its applicability to disability issues needs to be an integral part of all personnel preparation programs and that the focus should be more on process rather than on cultural content. The paper concludes with suggested topics for further research. Keyword: Cross cultural. Searchword: Inclusion
