This is an excellent article on parent advocacy and why it is such a powerful role/task. One of the main sources of this power is anger and using anger as a positive force for change; as one parent says "..perhaps not in time for our child, but maybe other parents and other children will not have to suffer..." The author also discusses the importance of support groups, what is involved in the move from 'personal' to 'public' advocacy (although it does not discuss the risks involved in this move) and the importance of family involvement. The last quote is great: that a parent sees his/her advocacy and involvement as a "gift" to all other parents. Keyword: Advocacy
