This article describes the results of a study looking at the experiences of general education teachers who have a student with severe disabilities in their class. The results are based on interviews with nineteen teachers and eighteen questionnaires and showed that despite initial negative reactions to the placement of a child with a disability in their class, seventeen teachers described transforming experiences and related many benefits to the child with a disability, classmates and themselves.
