This is the first publication in a series of three that was designed to assist Canadians in the development of services and supports for people with intellectual disabilities in the move from institutions to more community based lifestyles (see also File No.'s 3059 and 3060). This volume explores three examples of the development of more community based services systems and becomes the framework by which Volume II (based on such a development in Ontario) is written. This series is historically relevant in that it provides examples of the physical and values based push away from institutional service settings and is therefore of relevance to Australians.
