This plain English guide is directed mainly to university researchers. It is excellent in a number of respects. Firstly it discusses 'research' in general - asking the reader to think about knowledge and how it is used in society - and as such is concerned with power, empowerment and disempowerment. Following from this premise, therefore, the author writes about what truly ethical research would concern itself with in regards to women with disabilities - a traditionally 'voiceless' group in most western societies. She concludes that ethical research is about enacting positive social change. Thus research is not about objectivity (in fact no research is objective), it is values based and these values must be acknowledged and harnessed in order to create change in people's lives.
