This is an excellent article which clarifies what a true supported employment strategy should entail. The author is very clear about what constitutes and what does not constitute 'supported employment'. He argues that definitions need to be precise otherwise there will be a continuation of inadequate, contradictory and disempowering government policy and legislation. In general he believes that supported employment should represent a strategy aimed at moving from a competitive and exclusionary labour market to a supported and inclusive one. In this sense he argues that enclaves and mobile work crews cannot be characterised as employment per se - they are short term responses to the segregated present. This leads him to a final discussion about the process of transition from segregated to inclusive employment initiatives. Keyword: Employment
