This overview of supported employment looks at the move away from segregated services such as sheltered workshops to supported employment programs which emphasise integration. The focus of the article is on people with high support needs and as such the authors argue that segregated as well as certain forms of supported employment (such as enclaves and work crews) disadvantage people with high support needs and continue to exclude them. The authors conclude that a focus on individual placement is the only way in which people with even the most severe disabilities will succeed. This article gives clear definitions relating to employment. Keyword: Employment
