Genetic research and testing have brought about genetic discrimination. In this article, Jason Kuna asks human service providers to consider the impact on people with intellectual disability of living in a society where groups of people view individuals with disability - in particular, intellectual disability - as expendable. Kuna stresses the need to continue to develop and encourage the self-advocacy and self-determination movements to speak out. He also encourages allies of people with disability to be tireless in their efforts to raise the consciousness of the general public and legislators to the potential ramifications of genetic research and testing on people with disability.
