Sterilisation of children in the Australian context is related primarily to two characteristics - gender and disability. This paper discusses the issues relevant to sterilisation of young women and children, summarising some developments since an earlier (1997) report. It provides up-to-date information on the number of applications to the Family Court or relevant State Guardianship Tribunals. It also offers a number of practical measures that could be taken to address specific problem areas. Keywords: Legal, Women
