Peter Millier contrasts simply and movingly our understanding of what we understand when we think of a typical, ordinary 'real' life with the lifestyle that is commonly offered to a person with a disability. He goes on to outline reasons why this happens. He argues that people with a disability may never have a sense of truly belonging. Millier acknowledges that creating typical valued lives for people with a disability is not easy, and states that there are no short cuts to a typical ordinary valued life - "The struggle for a real life must be real".
